Steeped in folk, roots, and country sensibilities, Danielle Knibbe's songs win, and then all too often break your heart. Drawn from keen observation, they tell stories of the shimmer of new love, the angst of fading love, insecurity, loss, and hope. Her stories may not be about you, but you'll think they are. Her debut CD, Some Curious Birds (2016), has garnered CBC attention, regionally and nationally. CKUA’s David Ward selected it as an ‘Essential Album of 2016’, and it charted in the top 20 on CiTR, CJRU, CKDU and CFBX. The summer of 2017 saw Danielle performing at BC’s Tiny Lights and Sunshine Festivals, and on two Western Canada tours alongside her musical collaborators Bryn Besse, guitar, and Connor Walsh, bass.
The O’Pears are a Toronto-based contemporary folk trio made up of Lydia Persaud, Jill Harris and Meg Contini, three songwriters who weave stories that stir the spirit and capture the timeless character of folk music. Like Those Nights, their debut album, features soaring harmonies and a seamless blend, evoking the profound intimacy of Nick Drake, the sister-like blend of The Staves and the dynamic harmony of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Live performances turn the loudest bar into the warmest house concert, with their endearing, unabashed personalities balancing the intimate sincerity of the songs. They recently performed to high acclaim at festivals such as Summerfolk, Stewart Park Festival, Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, garnered radio play across Canada, and have been featured live with Royal Wood, Good Lovelies, and Coco Love Alcorn. In anticipation of the 2018 release of their holiday album, they are releasing their holiday single "Quiet Now" on December 1st, 2017. The O’Pears continue to bring a strong, honest voice to the modern female perspective.
