Snowblink: non-denominational devotional pop music Snowblink is a lush folk/pop duo from Toronto and Los Angeles, featuring Daniela Gesundheit and Dan Goldman. Drawing from her background in old-school Jewish Cantorial repertoire, and her training in classical South Indian vocal music, Gesundheit’s voice shifts with surgical precision between unaffected soprano tones and unapologetic animalistic expressions. Snowblink is sensual, not sterile, elegantly imperfect, Wabi Sabi. Gesundheit’s empathic, mesmeric lyrics, when coupled with Goldman’s patient and narcotic harmonies, establish a genuine intimacy. Snowblink’s newest collection of songs is an unflinching study of human relationships – to self, to other, and to Other, and to the threat or actuality of losing those unrepeatable prizes. It will be released this fall on Outside Music.
Montreal experimental harpist Sarah Pagé (The Barr Brother, Esmerine) builds beautiful ambient drones out of processed harp notes. Slow moving structures full of rich intertwining sonic textures. Bass tones sink and rumble, as waves travel up the frequency scale. Plucked notes ripple out with sparse melodic joy. This sounds like avant-garde campfire music. Pagé touches on a lot of interconnected sound worlds, capturing the feels of folk, post rock, classical composition, new age and ambient soundscapes, but never settles for a singular view. A not to be missed transformative experience!
